about me

i’m a daughter of the King, wife, and mom currently living in colorado. my husband’s new job is moving has moved us to asia – thailand to be specific – next summer right now. i’ve been to canada twice and I’m not sure that qualifies as preparation for a move 1/2 way around the world. i’m creating this blog for three reasons – first to document what God has done, is doing and will do in our lives, number two is record the preparation for the move, the actual move and our new life in asia. and third is that possibly blogging will be a good way to keep my friends, family and who ever else might be interested updated.

Glad to hear you survived the trip. I will try to keep reading to know what you are up to. You are more guts than I for this type of adventure. Stay safe, my friend and enjoy the ride!!

Hmmm … I’m a purple crayon (if memory serves – it’s been a while since I did this one so maybe I was blue, but methinks it was purple and it’s posted somewhere at Small Reflections). Sounds like an adventure for you and your family! I’m not sure I’d be up for such a move, but my nephew and his wife have lived in Singapore, Mexico, and are now on Trinidad Island and love the “vagabond” life (along with the tax-free status of “ex-pat” life). ‘Tis nice to meet you.
    Hugs and blessings,

Hi there! So glad you found my blog so that I could find yours!

Would love to know more about your experience in Colorado Springs. We’ve lived here almost five years…and in spite of whining about the snow yesterday (and again today), I love it.

we loved colorado and are trying to get adjusted to the tropics and heat and more heat… whew!

I didn’t know where to put this. I couldn’t find an email address for you. But this is in response to your question for Third Day on BooMama’s blog. If I lived in a country that had no access to Third Day CDs, and I couldn’t download it from iTunes, I’d probably buy it from the online store on http://www.ThirdDay.com. They have international shipping. People in the UK have said they got their items rather quickly. Barring ordering online, I would go to the message boards at http://www.ThirdDay.com/boards, introduce myself, and see if any of the nice Gomers over there would be so kind as to send me a copy. We’ve been known to do that for folks overseas. Maybe you could trade something cool from where you are for the CD. Anyway, come on over and tell them Mama Gomer sent you. :)

Hello there! I have just been enjoying your blog. I found it through an expat site. I am a 34 year mother of two children looking to stay for an extended time in Thailand. Most likely Chiangmai. I would love to ask you some questions about moving your family there. Things to plan for, things to expect, schools, etc.
My children are 9 (daughter) and 6 (son). It’s just the three of us. We lost their father just over a year ago. We are excited about our decision to come but as the family caretaker I need to research and ask the right questions and ask the right people. And who better than another mother (American, like me) who is already there, having made the transition?

    Thank you!
    Nicole

I, serendipitously, came across your website via Google. I’ll be at the Farley guest house in Ooty for ~1year and have many questions… well, maybe only a couple.
    1. Is there a common kitchen area? I’m wondering what kind of room to pick.
    2. What’s Ooty like? The pictures make it look very India, but what I’ve read sound, not Western, but… English?
    Thanks!

      Jason,

Farley was lovely. They have several rooms in the house and they also have another newer building that has a few rooms. The rooms in the newer building also have attached bathrooms with hot water – in the house they bring you hot water for a bucket bath. But there is a shower just off the main house that they heat water for. I don’t know if you checked the flickr pics but here are my pics from ooty – the drive up and down and some at the guest house.

I didn’t make our arrangements, so I’m not sure what you can arrange for at Farley. The cooking was done by Queenie – we ate breakfast and dinner there. The town of ooty itself was sort of India light. We didn’t have language problems, so that was nice, but still a culture shock from Thailand and the States. We were also there while most of the faculty from Hebron International School were on holiday and I think most of them are Westerners.

What will you be doing for a year at Farley?

I loved reading some of your blog and have a few questions. I too am from the U.S. and my husband is entertaining a job off er in Thailand for 2 years. We have a 8 yr. old girl with down syndrome, 6 yr. old boy, and 4 yr.old boy. How have you found the international schools to be? I would love an honest answer about how special needs are viewed and if there is a large American/ Expat community. What areas are most family and expat friendly. We have flexibility in regards to locations. I look forward to any info. you can give me and truly appreciate it.
