9 months

today i heard that not only does it take 9 months to have a baby today – it takes 9 months to transition to a new location. and on the internet i found this -

william bridges, an organization psychologist, observes that most people react to change by navigating their way through three distinct stagesendings, the neutral zone and new beginnings. people achieve successful transitions when they adjust to change through the healthy navigation of each of these three transition stages. when we fail to accomplish the essential tasks of each stage, we can get stuck in an incomplete and unsatisfying transition. this failure cripples our ability to live a satisfying life in our new area.

any time we’re going through a big move we should always begin with the ending. the ending phase typically begins when we first learn about an impending move. so it appears we should already be in the ending phase. i don’t know if i feel like i’m in the ending phase. but i better get there. it seems – at least according to mr. bridges – that i have to navigate this stage well or i’ll be stuck in an incomplete and unsatisfying transition. and i’m planning on achieving a successful transition.
